What type of wood does Harbor Trading use in the furniture it sells?

The majority of our furniture is made from Reclaimed Teak wood, with the exception of some of our outdoor furniture, which is made with Plantation Teak wood.

Do these woods split?

Although Reclaimed Teak is old wood, it is all kiln-dried to roughly 10% moisture levels and re-finished.  The seams in our furniture should not open up beyond a slight movement that is expected with rustic furniture made with old wood.  This is just natural distress.

What do you mean "natural distress"?

Cracks within the wood, knots, indentations and other superficial imperfections.  Also, our furniture is handcrafted and there are elements of that construction (filled nail holes, etc.) that can be seen upon close inspection.  They blend in with the look of our furniture and add to the rustic charm.

Do finishes in sets or collections match?

Our products are rustic and hand-finished.  Pieces will have a consistent overall tone (i.e. light or dark); however, there are some variances in the finishes and therefore we cannot guarantee matching.  Grain, texture, and tones will vary from piece to piece due to the nature of the wood and its hand-finished processing.

Why does my piece look different from the picture on your website?

We do our best to represent each piece as closely as possible on the website.  However, different lighting and settings will affect the color and appearance of any piece.  With sets, the best way to determine color is to look at overall similarities in finishes on pieces throughout the entire set.

What is the best way to maintain the appearance of my Harbor Trading furniture?

Just dust on a regular basis with a clean soft lint-free cloth.  Do not clean with a damp cloth or sponge.

What happens if water or liquid spills on my Harbor Trading furniture?

Wipe immediately.  If water sits on the surface for an extended period of time, it will stain.

How should the leather on some of your products be treated?

Our leather has a protective coating, so it can be cleaned using a slightly damp cloth.  To remove more severe stains and blemishes, we recommend using a professional leather care product.
